Eastern Edge Honoured to receive the Mary MacDonald Award

On Friday June 1st, 2018, Eastern Edge was honoured to receive The Mary MacDonald Award, Vanl-Carfac Visual Artists Newfoundland and Labrador EVA awards. This award thanks an individual or organization whose efforts have helped to sustain and build the visual arts sector.

On the night I was too moved to speak and Daniel stepped in. So I would like take this opportunity to thank those that nominated us, VANL, Perfect Day for their support of the award, the artists who have enriched our space and our members whose investment and participation makes our community so vibrant. I would also like to thank the Board of Directors and staff; Hannah Morgan, Daniel Rumbolt and Meg Coles, Eastern Edge could not achieve all that we do without their team effort and dedication.

It feels perfect that Mary’s portrait will be coming home to Eastern Edge, a space and community shaped forever more with the imprint of her love for art and community building. This portrait is by local artist and good friend John McDonald. The image is from the year we first met, when we were full of hope and ambition for the future and inspired to contribute to and shape our arts community. Lastly I would like to thank Mary. WWMD has been my daily mantra. It is her legacy of leadership, advocacy and drive that inspires me every day to do my best through Eastern Edge for the artists of NL. The award money will go towards the Mary MacDonald Foundation.

Eastern Edge would like to warmly congratulate all the winners! What a talented bunch of art stars Newfoundland and Labrador has. We are proud to stand alongside you and to do all that we can to be a platform for your art.

Thank you all
