Call for Artists and Volunteers
Eastern Edge Gallery is holding Express 2005: A Festival of Art in 24 Hours, otherwise known as the 24 hour Art Marathon, on August 27 and 28, 2005. Local artists create artwork for 24 hours straight within the gallery space and, at the end, the work created by these 'marathon artists' is sold through a silent and live auction. The profits made from the auction are then split equally between the artists and the gallery. As we are a non-profit artist-run center, this money goes a long way to help with the maintenance and operation of the gallery during the year. There are also 'spotlight artists' who work for three-hour periods. In the afternoon of Saturday the 27th, there are children's workshops, and family entertainment. As the event progresses there will be readings, performers, live music, screenings and more! Express 2005 is a very unique event where the public and media are able to witness the creative process in action.
How to get involved:
Be a marathon artist: Forget 15 minutes of fame, we'll give you the full 24 hours. Painters, potters, sculptors, musicians, poets, performance artists, photographers, glass blowers, you name it!
Perform on Saturday Evening: Bands, dancers, performance artists, etc.
Be a spotlight artist: If you don't want to stay up all night, there are 3 hour spots available for artists. Or donate a piece for the auction.
Teach a workshop: Help inspire a new generation of artists.
Bartender: If beer opening is your art...
Technicians: We need a sound person, and someone who can operate a data projector
Photographer: We're looking for an experienced digital photographer to document the show
Volunteers: We need door people, set-up crew, drivers to pick up donations, security, etc.
