WINTER WANDER
an open doors gallery crawl event
Saturday December 12 10-7 pm

On the afternoon of December 12, wander down to the Baird Building (corner of Clifts Baird Cove , Water Street and Harbour Drive) in historic downtown St. John’s. There you will find many of the city’s most exciting, engaging and fun artists hard at work! Eastern Edge Gallery, A1C Gallery, the Leyton Gallery of Fine Art, St. Michael’s Printshop and Wonderbolt Circus are all opening their doors for this special Holiday event! As an added bonus artists Christine Koch, June Walker Wilson and Will Gill will open their studios to the public as well.

Wander through the halls, deck them if you will, enjoy a holiday cookie or two, mulled wine, egg nog, wintery activities and games!

ABOUT
Eastern Edge Gallery is a non-commercial artist-run centre committed to exhibiting Canadian and International Contemporary art in diverse media, including visual, audio, interactive, performance, film and video, installation, and new technologies. The gallery is a supportive space for art, which explores new and challenging ideas, questions, concerns, awareness, and sensibilities. On December 12 we will host our closing reception for Time After Timeline, our 25th Anniversary Members' Exhibition with a Holiday Warming! Mulled wine, egg nog and holiday treats. www.easternedge.ca

A1C Gallery is a non-profit, artist-run centre. Our programming includes emerging, mid-career and established artists. At A1C, we provide resources, services and a supportive, meaningful context for artistic activity. On December 12, we will be hosting the closing of Of a Surface by the Pick-Me-Up Artists' Collective as well as celebrating our volunteers and members.

The Leyton Gallery of Fine Art opened in 2003. We carry the most important rising national and international artists living and working in Eastern Canada. The works range from realism to emotionalism to abstract symbolic work. We carry paintings, prints, and sculpture. We rent to buy, will do private consultations, and will ship anywhere. The gallery prides itself on its relaxed atmosphere and welcoming social and informative environment. Come by for hot cider and Christmas cookies. Wander to the Leyton Gallery (Clift's-Baird's Cove off Water Street) from 11-5pm

St. Michaels Printshop is an artist-run print studio which provides professional fine art printmaking facilities for established and emerging artists. A lure for printmakers who crave a space in which to create art surrounded by the extraordinary natural landscape of the North Atlantic, the Printshop also attracts visuals artists who wish to explore printmaking as a new medium for the first time through workshops with local and visiting printmakers. /www.stmichaelsprintshop.com

Wonderbolt Circus has been providing unique, original theatrical presentations to audiences in Newfoundland and Labrador and across Canada for twenty-five years. In our 2009-10 season Wonderbolt will bring it’s new circus show “Tricksters” to the Cultural Olympiad in Vancouver. We have a roster of shows from one-man seasonal pieces to a full-fledged circus. Christine Koch is a painter and printmaker. She has had more than 25 solo exhibitions from coast to coast to coast, participated in nearly 50 group exhibitions, and has had her work purchased for public, corporate, and private collections worldwide. Much of her current work deals with the Gros Morne area of Newfoundland, and the North. www.christinekoch.com
Wander to Christine Koch’s studio (177 Water Street) from 11-5:30pm

June Walker Wilson is a graduate of NSCAD and has been working out of the 177 Water Street studio for ten years. The mediums she works in are oil paints on canvas, watercolours and occasional textile pieces, producing colourful abstracts and landscapes.
