OLIVIA WONG: Greenspace

Opening Reception: October 27, 2017- 7- 9 pm

Greenspace is a series of performative and photographic works that looks at the connection
between the environment, people, and the body. It focuses on looking at the ways that nature can
be perceived, the moments of interaction with people, and the effects left behind. While being
informed by the theory of biophilia: the innate tendency for humans to look for affiliations with
nature and living things – Greenspace seeks to also look at the ideas of forced connections and
the negative effects from the environment on people, as well as from people on the environment.

OLIVIA WONG is an emerging artist from St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. She has
received her BFA in Visual Arts at Grenfell Campus Memorial University in 2017 and has also
studied for a semester in Harlow, England. She has been the VANL student representative for
two years, and has displayed work in England, British Columbia, and Newfoundland and
Labrador. Her current works are focused on identity, the body, and ties to the Earth, through a
series of photographs and performative work.
