Join Nadine in exploring the interplay between self and landscape, and how these encounters shape our understanding of ourselves and the world around us. Following the talk, you are invited to explore her studio space, where she will share discoveries from her Landscape Investigation Newfoundland project.

40 incredible years of art, performance, collaboration, exhibitions, residencies, festivals, and community!

As a part of our anniversary celebrations, we're asking for YOUR help to create a huge collage right on the gallery walls! We're collecting photos, posters, catalogues, old merch, and miscellaneous ephemera from years of EE past. Email us your scans or photocopies, or stop by Eastern Edge and we can help you document your items for inclusion in the collage.

Later this year, we will be hosting a 40th birthday party for EE!! Stay tuned for more exciting updates related to that celebration 👀🎂

We are very excited to welcome our newest Artist in Residence, Nadine Baldow! 🎉 Nadine is with us as an AiR from March 29th to May 11th, after which she will remain at EE to present a Main Gallery exhibition as well! How exciting!!

Since arriving in St. John's, Nadine has been foraging many interesting materials, including bones, moss, and bits of urban debris.🦴 We can’t wait to see her work develop over the next several weeks!

We are ecstatic to announce the opening of “Matka Las” (Mother Woods) by Luca Jesse Apel, up next in the rOGUE Gallery!!

In his own words: “Once upon a time, Poland was pagan, ruled by anthropomorphic deities for whom gender may be fluid, unknown or irrelevant...”

Using large-scale pinewood slab carvings, Luca interprets beings from Polish folklore and mythology through a queer, gender-expansive lens. “Matka Las” is both an exhibition and a journey toward cultural reclamation.

In the artists’ words, “‘Transient Maternal’ offers embodiments of grief and love that are emergent in intergenerational encounters and efforts to communicate with maternal ghosts through water.”

We are thrilled to announce our next workshop in collaboration with Artforce NL, An introduction to Curatorial Practice with Emily Critch.

Are you somebody who is interested in the behind-the-scenes work of putting together an art exhibition? Have you ever wondered what exactly a curator is, and what it is that curators do? This is the workshop for you! Introduction to Curatorial Practice is a workshop for folks with no prior experience, and an interest in the field! Workshop participants will learn the basics of curatorial practices, including relationship building, considering community responsibilities and best practices, learning how to support artists in a variety of ways, the process of developing art exhibitions from the beginning to the final stages, brainstorming ideas for exhibitions, programming, writing, and more!

This workshop is free to attend, and all are welcome! This program is funded by Artforce NL, an organization that serves folks aged 15-30, so we strongly encourage youth to attend.

Materials: A computer or cell phone to participate virtually, and something to write notes with if you so choose!

There are 20 slots available for this workshop. You can register on our website or find the link in our bio.

Kevin Melanson’s artist talk, originally scheduled for tomorrow afternoon has been postponed due to the ongoing winter storm. The talk has been rescheduled for Tuesday March 12th, from 7-9pm. This event will be taking place in person at Eastern Edge. We look forward to seeing you there and learning more about Kevin’s work!
