Waves is an experimental movement practice for creatives that aims to free mind, body and heart. Emphasis is placed on the breath by incorporating yogic techniques to enhance awareness and alignment with the body's energy flow. The aim is to move into your own unique flow state while promoting a sense of harmony between oneself and the collective.

Silent Auction Closing Party will take place in the Main Gallery this Saturday, August 31st, from 3 to 5pm! 🌈

Join us on August 31st from 3-5pm for the closing of our annual members’ exhibition LOOT BAG, as well as the artwork silent auction. This is your chance to place one last bid on that artwork that you are really excited about! The auction will close at 4pm sharp, afterwhich point, if you are the winning bid, you can take the piece home with you! AND there will be door prizes! We will be hosting a draw for two amazing door prizes donated by local downtown businesses including a $50 gift card for Relic, and a $100 gift card for Model Citizens!

All proceeds from the silent auction will be split between the gallery and the artists 50/50, with the gallery’s portion supporting our free arts programming and workshops throughout the year! Eastern Edge can accept payment in the form of credit, debit, cash, or e-transfer.

« Fawk Your Walls » exhibition by Brian Amadi is still up in the rOGUE Gallery until the 31st of August! 🌞

This exhibition is a statement of resistance and a demand for recognition of the economic position of everyone below age 40 in our society today. Brian Amadi uses Acrylic paint to create a variety of artworks on denim Jackets. The subject of each painting varies as a signifier that there’s no group of people that can escape the current artificial asset scarcity that we are subjected to.

Participants will be guided through a DIY-animation process, a hybrid digital-analog approach to turning smartphone videos into rotoscope-animations. The entire process will be explored: translating videos into individual frames; projecting them onto paper; tracing them frame by frame; reassembling rotoscoped images into animated sequences; and editing and exporting video files.

Embroidery is a key component in adorning traditio

Embroidery is a key component in adorning traditional Palestinian clothing. In this class, students will learn the history and basics of Palestinian embroideries: tatreez, hem stitch, and tahriri on aida cloth. They will explore a sampling of common traditional tatreez motifs to use in their own pieces, as well as discuss the creation of their own designs.

As an artist-community collaboration, Brenda and participants will make patterned ‘fabric’ for new quilt blocks for “Underlay.” Using stencils, we will design and paint motifs representing St. John’s onto blank quilt blocks. These new blocks will be incorporated into the original quilt, forever marking its trip to St. John’s.

The exhibition showcases over 60 works by various artists, with over 50 pieces available through our silent auction!

Additionally, a collage wall made from our archives offers a glimpse into our 40-year history as an artist-run center. 🫶

Last tuesday, we had the pleasure of welcoming Chloe Cha, Erin Brubacher, Anne Wessels, and their performance « There is so much more to say »

A bubble in which local melodies and stories from community members were received. We opened up to one another and grew closer to our neighbors.
We learned to weave our stories together, now embodied in carpets that will serve as seats for future visitors to this performance.

Thank you again for this amazing opportunity to connect more deeply with our community.

Last but not least,
Introducing XIA-3 who will be performing at Foxtrot Oscar 1!

XIA-3, an instrumental fusion trio based in Newfoundland, seamlessly blends traditional Chinese
elements with Western post-rock sensibilities. Established in 2022, the band is led by guzheng
virtuoso Dr. Jing Xia, supported by the seasoned St. John’s punk rockers Ritche Perez on
baritone guitar and Brian Downton on drums. With an eclectic repertoire, XIA-3 has performed
at diverse musical events, including the Newfoundland Folk Festival (NL), SappyFest (NB) and
DuneFest (St. Pierre and Miquelon). Their dynamic performances have earned them recognition,
such as the 2023 MusicNL Awards “Rising Star of the Year” and “Instrumental Artist/Group of
the Year.”

Introducing Madame Daddy who will be performing at Foxtrot Oscar 1!

Madame Daddy is your favourite genderbending, flamboyant, fancy little creature! The unofficial father figure of St. John’s drag, they have been active in the St. John’s scene for 6 years as a drag performer, host, producer, and choreographer. They originate from the primordial ooze that is The Phlegm Fatales, St. John’s’ premiere trans/nonbinary drag collective. Their performance style combines a healthy dose of camp, comedy, theatrics, burlesque, and unmatched dancing skills - you may have caught them in TaDa! Events’ Rocky Horror Show and Kinky Boots (2023) or Return to Planet Phlegm (2023). Their work has been featured in conjunction with various festivals and organizations about town such as HOLD FAST Festival, Eastern Edge, St. John’s International CircusFest, St. John’s Status of Women’s Council, and Palestine Action YYT.
They are all about bringing community together, celebrating trans/queer joy, and just having fun on the stage in their heels - it’s where they belong!

Introducing Craig Francis Power who will be performing at Foxtrot Oscar 1!

Craig Francis Power (he/him) is a visual artist and the award-winning author of three novels. Total Party Kill, his first collection of poetry forthcoming from Breakwater Books in Fall 2024, is an exploration of addiction and sobriety through the vernacular, imagery, and lore of Dungeons & Dragons, the Fantasy-themed table-top role-playing game. He lives in St. John’s, Newfoundland (Ktaqmkuk) with his partner, daughter, dog, and cat.

July in review!!! 🎬 We had a HUGE month here a

July in review!!! 🎬

We had a HUGE month here at EE! We had @_m.lk___ working out of our studio space, the staff had fun digging through our storage room for old event posters, we deinstalled @nadine_baldow’s Alive Matter from the Main Gallery and hosted a community take-away day with the materials from the exhibition, we assembled our 40th anniversary collage wall and installed the Members’ Exhibition LOOT BAG, we set up for an ran our 6HAM and Birthday Party on July 20th, @briankcee’s exhibition Fawk Your Walls (@fawkyourwalls)opened in the rOGUE Gallery with a lovely performance by Brian, we hosted the @peacelovenpride Queer Community Feast following their 10th annual Trans March, and we finished the month with a performance by @generousfriendart - Erin Brubacher, Chloe Cha, and Anne Wessels.

Introducing Tendai Mudunge who will be performing

Introducing Tendai Mudunge who will be performing at Foxtrot Oscar 1!

Tendai Mudunge made the rock his home back in 2012 when he came to study at Memorial University. Since then he continues to grow from strength to strength through his exploits and countless positive contributions in dance. Since 2016 he has been promoting, teaching, showcasing, performing and sharing his knowledge of Latin and African dance across the rock. His greatest strength is his charming personality and nothing makes him happier than seeing all the smiles on the dance floor.
