Honouring Artist Annie Pootoogook

A pop-up screening of the film Annie Pootoogook (2006) and fundraiser (proceeds to the St. John’s Native Friendship Centre)

Co-sponsored by VANL-CARFAC and Eastern Edge Gallery

Inuk artist Annie Pootoogook passed away on September 19, 2016 in Ottawa, Ontario. She was a bright light and important figure in Canadian contemporary art making drawings that portrayed contemporary life in an Indigenous Arctic community. This film is “an intimate portrait of (the) Cape Dorset artist…as she prepares for her first solo exhibition at The Power Plant Centre for Contemporary Art in Toronto in 2006.) Annie went on to win the Sobey Art Award that same year and, among her other achievements, represented Canada at Documenta in Kassel, Germany in 2007.

Please join us in celebrating the life and work of this remarkable Canadian, Indigenous female artist.

Special thanks to Site Media Inc., the producers of the film Annie Pootoogook (2006) directed by Marcia Connolly, who have generously waived the screening fee for this fundraising event.
