Come on and SLAM, and welcome to the HAM! 🍖12HAM 2023🍖 is coming your way VERY SOON!

Join us at Eastern Edge (72 Harbour Drive) for the 12-hour art marathon so nice we do it twice (a year!). From 10am to 10pm on Saturday, July 22, come with friends, come to make some new ones, come for a hot minute or a long spell – whatever way you spin it, come by and experience some fun pop-ups!

No registration is required, and admission to the art marathon is by donation towards HOLD FAST 2023, happening from August 22-26, 2023!

🔥ALI PIKE🔥

Ali fell in love with being a stylist when they realized they could create art on an evolving canvas! They carve bespoke haircuts that reflect the individual and empower them to intuitively care for it. With a focus on identity exploration and community care, Ali is stoked to be a part of 12HAM again this season. If your vibe is less is more, come have a seat in Ali’s chair!

🔥LAUREN HOGAN🔥

Lauren (@betterpleasure) is a self-taught handpoker based in downtown St. John’s. Her inspirations often come back to precious findings in nature & everyday life. Motivated by human connection, she hopes to leave people with meaningful (sometimes silly) adornments for their skin.

🔥EMYN HAYDEN🔥

Emyn Hayden is a hairstylist that has been styling hair professionally for 3 years now. Since he could hold a pencil, he’s been finding and exploring new ways to create art, hairstyling becoming a beloved creative extension that he has been excited to practice and share with his community. Since apprenticing at the Seahorse Salon, he found his love for natural textures and dry cutting and is thrilled to be able to offer his services at events like Hold Fast Festival and True You Hairdo; He calls it soul food. When not behind a chair, Emyn can be found with his partner and their furry kids out in nature or at home curled up in front of a good movie. He would like to say thank you to the amazing mentors, clients & professionals he’s met so far in his young career; specifically his team at the Seahorse & Ali Pike.

🔥MORBID MEAGAN🔥

Meagan is a tattoo artist based in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Her work speaks to a love for dark and spooky, exploring new and creative ways to make eternally wearable pieces of art.

🔥SHAZIA AHMAD🔥

Join Shazia Ahmad (HOLD FAST alum & painter/printmaker extraordinaire!!) to make a collaborative diorama! We’ll work together to build dioramas filled with small handmade buildings, people, public art, and anything else you can imagine. All materials and supplies will be provided. No experience necessary! The completed dioramas will be put on display during this year’s HOLD FAST Festival Art Crawl (Saturday, August 26).

🔥ST. MICHAEL’S PRINTSHOP🔥

St. Michael’s Printshop is an artist-run print studio that has worked to offer accessible printmaking to artists and community members since 1974. Become a printmaker and carve your own linoleum block – all levels of experience are welcome!

Block carving will be offered from 1-4pm and it’s free to participate (tho tips are appreciated!). All materials will be provided. Check out more of SMP’s fabulous summer programming @st_michaels_printshop 🖤

🔥CHRISTIAN DAUBLE🔥

Christian (they/them) is a fibre craftsperson, musician, and folklorist based in St. John’s. Originally from Florida, they moved to Ktaqmkuk in 2017 to pursue a MA and PhD in ethnomusicology. In 2022 Christian was awarded funding to pursue an apprenticeship in weaving through HeritageNL. They are interested in sustainability and local textile production.

All spinners are invited to bring their wool and wheels to EE to work on projects, share knowledge, and grow our community. We will also have wool and some extra wheels available to teach anyone who might be interested!

🔥SALT PAGES🔥

Salt Pages is a non-profit bookseller based in St. John’s, dedicated to bringing progressive, alternative, and local literature directly to you! Celebrate the launch of Salt Pages’ newest zine, “Hardly Working,” with an open mic night! All artists featured in the zine will be invited to share their work; we’ll also be opening the floor to anyone attending who would like to read their poetry or prose or comic or any kind of creative work!

The launch party & open mic starts at 7pm. In the meantime, you can learn more about Salt Pages’ awesome work @saltpagesnl 🖤

Samuelle is a DJ and Producer from St. John’s. Through experimentation and playfulness, she aims to create good vibes and lasting memories. 🖤

🔥MONICA ILA🔥

Monica Ila (she/her) is a multidisciplinary artist, cartographer and prairie mermaid from Calgary, Alberta. Her work includes sculpture, murals, painting, and puppetry. Playfulness is at the heart of everything she makes. She creates art out of her cozy studio on Water Street and is studying Sculpture at the Alberta University of the Arts. Monica believes that art is instrumental in bringing communities closer together and rediscovering the whimsy within our daily lives.

At 12HAM, Monica will show you how to draw out little stories, then turn them into a miniature crankie theatre. Then check out Monica’s interactive show “I Dream in Shapes & Shadows” and play with the shadow puppets in the rOGUE Gallery! This activity is free to participate in. All materials and supplies will be provided. No experience necessary!
