3 D Printing Guide
Eastern Edge has 3D printer and is available to members and we like to thank Ian Vogt For his contribution to your next step in 3 D printing
Steps to print on the EE 3-D printer:
- Obtain or create the model you wish to print.
- Load the model into a slicer app (e.g. Ultimaker Cura), set the print size, and configure the other print parameters.
- Run the slicer.
- View the print preview and verify everything looks OK. If necessary, make adjustments and rerun the slicer.
- When everything is satisfactory, note the reported time to print and amount of filament required and save the .gcode file to your computer, to a USB thumb drive, or your own micro SD card.
- Contact the Eastern Edge staff at easternedgegallery@gmail.com to schedule your print. They will need to know:
- The amount of filament reported by the slicer, if you are not using your own. Note, the charge for using EE PLA filament is $0.10 per gram as reported by the slicer. Please check for colours and amounts available.
- Note, using filament other than PLA requires prior permission to ensure health of studio occupants and the printer.
- The time to print reported by the slicer. Note, prints longer than 6 hours will require prior arrangements to monitor the print outside normal business hours.
- The name of the .gcode file and how you are bringing/sending the file – either on your own micro SD card, by email (note, .gcode files are typically too large to email), on your computer, or on a USB thumb drive.
- At the scheduled time, bring the file and, optionally, your filament to the EE studio and assist staff with setting up the print. Stay long enough to confirm the print is proceeding without issue. Most print problems become evident in the first two print layers. Note, EE is not responsible for failed prints regardless of cause.
- After the print completes, return to the EE studio to collect your print. EE staff may remove the print from the build plate but not perform any post-processing.
