Mainframe Workshop: 3D printing with Tom Allston, Feb. 9, 7-9 pm

On February 9th, from 7-9 pm at 72 Harbour Dr, join us for a free introduction to 3D printing with Tom Allston!

3D printing can open up a world of possibilities for artists. Fully printed sculptures, custom art tools and jigs, and more are just a few clicks away!

This workshop will cover the basics of 3D printing, so no previous experience is required. It will start with a basic overview of what kinds of printers and materials are available, leading to how to take a 3D model and get it ready for printing. Everyone will get to pick a model online and create the printing file. Printing is very slow, so we won’t be able to run more than one file during the workshop, but feel free to come back when you can and run your file! 

If you’d like to follow along, please bring a laptop with Cura installed and a 3D model you’d like to print. If you do not have a laptop, let us know.

About Tom

Tom Allston (he/him) is a hobbyist and maker from St. John’s, NL, who’s always tinkering with some DIY project. He has a background in engineering and has been 3D printing since before it was called 3D printing, so he’s learned a thing or two about the process over the years. Many of his artistic and hobby projects would be best described as “contraptions,” and he tries not to take anything too seriously.
