Pocket Creativity (Association for the Arts in Mount Pearl)

These sessions involve individuals or groups responding to creativity prompts to create temporary art from a small bag of craft supplies and other items (provided by us.). People can drop in and just do a few prompts or they can do the whole list.

Join us at Quidi Vidi Brewery (on their lower deck) on August 5th from 5-7pm for our festival launch party + artist meet and greet! This event will feature special guests Riddle Fence with a few readers from their newest edition. Plus, there will be two door prizes donated by our friends at Riddle Fence, Lawnya Vawnya, and Saltwater Designs!

Featured Artist Workshop: Stim Toy Maker Space Oz [B.G-Osborne]
Wednesday, August 6 – 5:30pm-7:30pm

Stim Toy Maker Space is an all-ages, no experience required, stim toy-making workshop. Participants will be provided with a wide range of materials to brainstorm and experiment with making their own personal stim toy. This workshop will be for neurodivergent community members and their loved ones.
Materials Provided will include: paracord, cotton and silk woven rope, wooden beads, glass beads, rocks, small ceramic pieces [glazed and unglazed], carabiners/metal fasteners, glass tubing [can be cut to custom size by the artist], satin ribbon, magnets, various adhesives, various fabric samples, memory foam, and a few other odds and ends.
This is a mandatory mask event; we will have masks available if you are not able to bring one with you.

Featured Artist Workshop: Introduction to Performance Art Joliz Dela Peña
Thursday, August 7 – 2:00pm-5:00pm
The SPACE, 72 Harbour Drive
This workshop-laboratory introduces participants to performance art as a powerful medium for storytelling, activism, and embodied resistance. Through guided exercises, discussions, and interactive movement explorations, participants will learn how to use their bodies, gestures, objects, and even public space to communicate ideas and challenge societal narratives.
The workshop will conclude with a collective reflection, inviting participants to share their experiences and consider how performance art can serve as a tool for expression and social critique.
This workshop is open to all experience levels, no prior performance experience required, just a curiosity about the medium.
Participants are asked to wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move on the floor and bring a mat/cushion. Joliz also invites you to bring an item to explore and/or an intention to carry with them through the experience. This class is best suited for adults (ages 16+).
Workshop: Move Your Body, Babe! with Jenna Slaney/Holly Rancher

This workshop is for everybody and EVERY BODY!
Jenna (she/her) is a young, queer femme, plus size performer who is passionate about creating space and comfortability for marginalized bodies in movement and performance spaces. Jenna has been dancing from a young age and has many years
experience in various styles, with particular training of 8+ years as a heels dancer and can be found in the local burlesque scene of St. John’s as the sultry, sassy and forever sweet – Holly Rancher!
It will provide a safe(r) space for movers of all body types, gender identities, and ability/experience level to explore self love through movement and building self confidence and body lovin’!
How to talk to your neighbour with Jude Benoit

Jude Benoit (They/them/nekem) is a Two-spirit interdisciplinary artist. They are an emerging playwright, a long-time protest art activist, a spoken word poet, storyteller and published author. They have often woven and drawn inspiration from their trans rights and environmental activism. They are Mi’kmaq from Ktaqmkuk, with both maternal and paternal lineage from Mi’kma’ki.
Learn how to build a caring community using empathy, storytelling, and decolonial transformative justice.

Featured Artist Workshop: Mirror Embroidery Khadija Aziz
Friday, August 8 – 1:00pm-3:00pm
East Coast Quilt Co, 343 Water Street
Explore South Asian mirror embroidery techniques and learn to adorn textiles with round mirrors! In this beginner-friendly workshop, you will learn about the origins of mirror embroidery and decorate cloth with shimmering glass mirrors and beautiful thread. By the end of the evening, you will have created a sampler that you can refer to in your future embellishment projects.
All materials and supplies will be provided. Students may bring along additional supplies (fabric, clothing, thread) to personalize their projects. This class is best suited for adults (ages 14+).
This workshop is generously being hosted by East Coast Quilt Co. All workshop participants are required to sign a waiver before the workshop. Anyone under the age of 18 must have this form signed by a parental guardian.

Join us for a very special evening! Fancy Artist Talks are the calm at the eye of the storm: a breath of stillness before the colourful, vibrant, chaos of Saturday’s Art Crawl.
For featured artists, this evening is a time to share stories about themselves, their process, and their work. For attendees, it’s a chance to dress up in whatever makes you feel comfortable, sip unique artist-themed mocktails, and gain a deeper appreciation for the art you’re about to see! Plus, we’ll have a special door prize donated by Fisher’s Loft! You won’t want to miss this magical night!
