Needle Felting Workshop with Vicky Sabourin
During this workshop Vicky will teach needle felting techniques. The workshop will allow the participants to create a small animal of their choice under Vicky’s guided hand. If the project is not completed during the workshop, the participant will know enough to be able to finish it at home or in their studio.
This workshop will give the participants a new perspective and understanding of Vickys practice. When they see the amount of time it requires to make a small animal that fits in the palm or their hand, they have an tangible knowledge and understanding of the labor it takes Vicky to make a full size felted horse.
Workshop will be held at DozenOdd in Carbonear, NL.
Space is limited so please register as soon as possible.
Material will be provided.

Wet felting for beginners.
During this workshop, Vicky will teach how to use the wet felting technique. This is a good introduction to felting and the results are quick to achieve and you don’t need a lot of material which means that people who attend this workshop can reproduce it at home.
With wool we will make fake rocks. The subject of this workshop is also intertwined in Vicky’s own practice.

For People with Ray Fenwick
Friday, August 11th 3:00 – 5:00pm
Eastern Edge Gallery
72 Harbour Drive
For People is a guided text recitation in the dark. In this work, an audience of unrehearsed (and perhaps unsuspecting) “choral speakers” are lead through simple texts via a projection. We will aim for about 30 minutes for the show.
Traditionally, choral speaking is the recitation of a text by a group in unison, but the aim is something more akin to the communal creation of a language- based soundscape. The text is non-narrative, and purposefully “meaningless” so that the focus is pulled away from meaning and towards experience. The result is both absurd and strangely spiritual.

The Neal Building

Workshop Purpose: To learn about the history of artist manifestoes. We aim to inspire political awareness and action by looking at the rich history of artist manifestoes.
Each participant will write their own manifesto; to accomplish this we will begin with a close read of the several manifestoes. When reading the texts we will identify and understand political and social contexts of the time as well as the subject positions of the groups writing. After coming to understand the Manifesto as a form we will then begin to compose our own Manifestos. Using creative writing activities and interactive dialogue we /will identify our manifesto subjects and begin writing. The Manifestos produced will be printed on flyers to be taken home and distributed.

Body Book will be a workshop presented by Newfoundland artist April White in which participants will be creating a drawn book focusing on bodily movements and eventually transform the images into a GIF. This workshop will develop an analyst of movement through drawing and observation of the body. April will aid participants in the blinding of a small book with their collection of observations and these images will then be the base for an animated image.
