‘estrogenesis’ is the debut full length collection by queer and trans poet Violet Drake. It chronicles her coming of age story from fragmented child to whole adult. Themes explored throughout include identity and autonomy, trauma and recovery, intimacy and embodiment, hope and grief, as well as authenticity and community. Her words are for anyone who has ever felt like an outsider, marginalized, too queer or trans, constricted by rurality, and/or at odds with themselves. It is a treatise of truth, by a woman who is writing herself into the history of this place here at the Atlantic edge.

Violet Drake is a poet, visual artist, and activist born and raised in the small coastal community of Lawn, Newfoundland. Now based in St. John’s, her work explores queer and trans intimacies, embodied trauma, and place-based poetics. She has been engaged in LGBTQ community and artistic organizing for over 5 years, most notably and recently as a cast member and co-author of ‘transVersing’ (2018). Violet has been writing since the age of 13, with her debut collection ‘estrogenesis’ set for release August 6th (2019).
