As we near the conclusion of our first residencies with the inaugural FARR Program, we are delighted to host a Community Conversation between Tangiene Martin-O’Hara & Evelyn Roitner, facilitated by artist D’Arcy Wilson. This is a moment to both listen to the experiences of our artists, and share your own insights in an open dialogue with others.

D’Arcy Wilson (MFA University of Calgary ’08, BFA Mount Allison University ’05) is an Atlantic Canadian artist whose work laments past and ongoing colonial interactions with the natural world. From her own perspective as a descendent of European settlers in Canada, she notes instances in which her culture’s affection and desire for nature are impeded by its tendency to harm. D’Arcy’s interdisciplinary work has been presented across Canada, most recently at Dalhousie University Art Gallery (2019), The Beaverbrook Art Gallery (2018), The Rooms Art Gallery (2017) and the Owens Art Gallery (2016), as well as M:ST, Flotilla, and Connexion ARC, and her work will be included in the 2019 Bonavista Biennale (Floe). D’Arcy is based in Corner Brook, NL, where she is Assistant Professor in the Visual Arts Program at Memorial University of Newfoundland, Grenfell Campus.
Tangiene Martin-O’Hara is an artist and illustrator from Corner Brook whose practice focuses on portrait and abstract drawing. Using her friends’ photographs and social media posts as source material for her drawings, Tangiene seeks to express a deeper connection and consideration for her subject matter. Her portraits of friends are commonly centred on the everyday positive moments in their lives or the animals and people that give them pleasure. She explores the therapeutic aspects of colour and tone to create a meditative space in our lived experience.
Evelyn Roitner is an emerging multidisciplinary artist and illustrator. Originally from Aurora, ON she is now based in St. John’s, NL. In 2016 she graduated from OCAD University with a Bachelor of Design in Illustration.
Through traditional and digital mediums, she explores themes of identity, storytelling, place and personal mythologies.
