Inside/Outside Community: Thrive x EE zine launch
People who are living in poverty face countless barriers to access the things that all people need to survive, leaving little time for creative expression or knowledge sharing. This month, Eastern Edge and Thrive are partnering up to support strategically undervalued community members in co-creating a zine! What’s a zine, you ask? A zine is a self-published work of art that could include poems, stories, visual art, radical information, or other forms of self-expression…
With this project, we aim to provide the space, time, and financial compensation to people who may want to artistically express themselves but aren’t privileged enough to do so at their leisure. An additional bonus goal of this project is to provide space for relationship building within community among people who, as a consequence of our capitalistic structures, would likely not have the opportunity to meet and share ideas otherwise.
In January 2025, Eastern Edge and Thrive launched a fundraiser to support a collaborative, participant-driven zine project. We are proud to share the end result: Inside/Outside Community
Thank you, first and foremost, to all the zine contributors: Lyrilla and Love Rose, Kim, Tuk-Tuk, Rocky, Cory, Gregory, Crystal, Stephen, Jason, Steph, and the folks who opted to remain anonymous. It was an honour to share space, hang out, and create with you (we also had a LOT of fun).
We also want to thank all of you in our community, for supporting this work. We couldn’t (and still can’t) believe we hit our fundraising goal in less than a week. We are grateful to everyone who helped make this possible.
Last but certainly not least, we want to give a special shoutout to Jodi and Andrew of the street outreach team at Thrive. Thank you for being wonderful.
