Saying goodbye to AiR Jem Woolidge
On the weekend we said goodbye to our June – July artist in residence, Jem Woolidge! Jem’s time at EE was absolutely packed with incredible community connections and joyful creative projects. We are very sad to have to bid them farewell for now, but we know we will see them again for more adventures!
The beginning of Jem’s residency lined up perfectly with Lawnya Vawnya’s 16 iteration of their music festival. With so many incredible musical performers around, Jem was able to meet and consult with them about making custom garments throughout his residency. During the festival, Jem also tabled at the merch fair, and gave a talk about their practice, followed by a very fun and silly game of dress up using performance garments that he has made! EE staff had SUCH a great time goofing around in Jem’s amazing wearable art!

Jem participated in several of Eastern Edge’s open studios, and hosted an amazing clothing swap and appliqué workshop in the studio. It was wonderful to see so many community members show up and get so engaged with Jem’s work and process, learning methods for their own clothing embellishment!

By the end of Jem’s residency, they had completed fabulous garments, hand-made gouache-painted posters, and made a whole lot of incredible connections with our sweet art community. Our staff member, Shireen, took some fantastic photos of Jem, the musical artist Feminotica, and the spectacular garments Jem made for them (see below)!
We are so grateful to Jem for their warmth and sweetness, and for sharing their work, practice, and knowledge with us! Thanks for the memories, Jem!! We can’t wait to see what you get up to next, and we hope to see you again soon!
