Saying Goodbye to our recent AiRs, Cat & John!

We recently said goodbye to our wonderful artists in residence, Cat Bluemke & John Janigan-Mills! We want to thank them for sharing their work with us; it was so cool seeing their video game develop, and hosting a live jazz performance too! We’ll miss the joyful, silly energy they brought to the space—especially their spontaneous dance breaks! We wish them all the best with their future endeavours, and hope to see them in the not-so-distant future.

Read on to hear their reflections on their time at EE, and to see some great pics from the weeks they spent in NL!

“From snow squalls and invisible sidewalks, to bright, creative and colourful days in a welcoming arts community, St. John’s really showed us many facets of life on the rock during our month at Eastern Edge!

Our residency began with a remarkably warm welcome in contrast to the frigid temperatures. Getting an art-community crash-course through the Art Crush event in our first week granted us the familiar faces that we’d continue to see smiling across music, art, and comedy events in the city for the rest of our time here.”

“While we landed with a project to tackle over the month, it morphed as we were inspired by local musicians, some of whom became collaborators through our live Let’s Play Jazz performance! It was such a treat to perform for such a receptive and fun-loving community like Eastern Edge.”

“We’ll miss the daily dance parties, the view from the top floor of Toslow, Ash’s (many) fantastic pants, Amanda’s cheer, Elijah’s jokes, and Laura’s killer local recommendations (we’ll be back to finally try them all!).

St. John’s, you’re a gem! We’ll see you again soon.”
