Update regarding COVID-19

Eastern Edge Gallery
March 16th, 2020

Dear friends,

Eastern Edge holds the well-being of our artists and community above all else. We have been closely monitoring expert guidelines and health and safety updates regarding COVID-19. After consultations with the individuals involved, all planned events and gallery rentals for March have been postponed or cancelled. Our scheduled Spring cleaning period from February to the end of March means that no programmed artists at Eastern Edge will be impacted this month.

We acknowledge that the current situation is extremely precarious for artists and arts organizations. As updates unfold within Newfoundland and Labrador and across the country, we will be making further decisions regarding the exhibitions, residencies, and other programming throughout April and May.

Among countless uncertainties, one thing can be promised – we are committed to ensuring artists are paid for their work, and that all previous agreements still stand. Where possible and with permissions, alternative platforms for art presentation such as online access will be created. Ultimately – our artists will be paid.

Artists will continue to be paid full fees based on the CARFAC Fee Schedule, and EE will not be asking for refunds or denying fees already committed to artists. This includes exhibitions, residencies, artist talks, workshops, panel discussions, and any other programming that may be affected by sensible social distancing strategies to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

We are very much aware that our local community of artists, many of whom are freelance, are facing hardships. We are working on strategies to help support these artists within our means.

The EE Team will continue to work at our location on 72 Harbour Drive for the coming week, but will stay vigilant in maintaining the health and safety of our staff and community. We will provide further updates should things change. You can contact our team through this email: gallery@easternedge.ca.

Together, we will get through this.

Sincerely, and on behalf of the Eastern Edge Team,

Daniel Rumbolt

Interim Director
