Wake Up Inspired: Call for Submissions 2023

Wake Up Inspired is an annual exhibition of visual art (prints, paintings, drawings, sculptures, photographs, etc.) by Newfoundland and Labrador artists aged 15-35. Wake Up Inspired is organized by Eastern Edge and Artforce NL. This year’s exhibition will be held in Eastern Edge’s rOGUE Gallery from March 10th to April 22nd, 2023. Artists are invited to submit up to three artworks for exhibition.

Eastern Edge is an artist-run centre located in St. John’s, NL, dedicated to exhibiting work that facilitates critical dialogue concerning issues in contemporary art and society, and actively encouraging emerging and established artists whose work speaks to feminist, multicultural, queer, and other diverse perspectives. 

Artforce NL is an arts-based education charity, helping Newfoundland and Labrador youth overcome social and/or economic obstacles. Through arts-based programming and connections, Artforce helps young people coping with challenging circumstances develop life skills essential for independence and success.

 

To apply, please fill out the exhibition proposal form.

In your application please include:

  • CV/Resume (to include exhibition history and education).
  • A maximum of 6 high quality digital images of the work which you are proposing to exhibit (1 photo and 1 detail photo of up to 3 completed artworks).
  • Image list for all digital images including: medium, dimensions, year the work was made.
  • Artist statement (explain the ideas behind your work, inspiration, meaning, etc. to a max of 150 words).
  • The completed application form.

Applications must be submitted via email to easternedgegallery@gmail.com with the subject line “Wake Up Inspired 2023”.

Proposals must be submitted no later than February 15th, 2023 at 11:59pm.

 

Selection: 

Artworks will be selected by a committee of Eastern Edge Staff/Board Members and Artforce staff. Artists should meet the organization’s criteria: be aged 15-35 and be current residents of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Compensation: 

Artists will each receive $200 each to participate in this group exhibition.

Drop off:

Artists will be notified of the jury’s decisions by February 21, 2023. Selected artworks must be delivered to Eastern Edge before March 4, 2023. Work should be delivered ready to display with proper hanging materials (frames, proper hooks, magnets, etc.). 

Code of Ethics:

Artforce holds to a Code of Ethics which guarantees unconditional positive regard for all participants, and freedom from discrimination, prejudice, or any form of negative treatment. All participants and staff are expected to abide by this code. Similarly, Eastern Edge Artist-Run Centre adheres to an inclusive Code of Conduct that can be viewed on their website HERE. Artwork submissions that violate either organization’s Code of Ethics or Code of Conduct will not be accepted.
