AiR Workshop: Bark Tanning with Susan Furneaux, 6/24

On June 24th, from 1-3 pm, join artist-in-residence Susan Furneaux for an introduction to bark tanning!

Bark tanning can be applied to fish skin and any thinner hides such as goat, seal and rabbit. This traditional skill uses just salt and bark-sourced tannins, making it perfect for anyone committed to sustainable local art processes. Participants will clean a small piece of fish skin and learn the tanning process. Handouts on how to start and dye with your spruce vat will be provided.

Participants must bring a 250ml mason jar with a lid, a paring knife, a small cutting board (wood preferred) and a spoon. Aprons and gloves are encouraged. This workshop is FREE and will take place at 72 Harbour Drive. Registration is required. Please email easternedgestudio@gmail.com if you have any questions or need assistance.
