HOLD FAST Pop-Ups 2021

Guillermo Trejo: Monoprint Reduction Printing
Time: Wednesday, August 25th, 6:30-9:30 pm

Participants will make a multi-colour print using monotype printing and cut stencils. This workshop will investigate the possibilities of the cut stencil in printmaking to create figurative and abstract forms. Participants will cull stencils that will then be laid out on a plate and printed. They will then remove parts of the stencil and print again, similar to a traditional reduction print but way quicker! Participants will also have the option to play with transparency and overlapping colours if they want.

 

Kelly Jane Bruton: Matilda Mendit
Time: Saturday, August 28th, 2-5 pm
Location: Bannerman Park

Matilda Mendit, will be offering a free button sewing lesson and service. Bring your garment that needs a button or maybe a sweater that needs an upcycle. We are opening up all those wonderful button tins! There will be so many buttons to choose from and lots of threaded needles. Suitable for all ages, children with adult supervision are welcome.

 

DarkNL: Camera Obscura
Time: Saturday, August 28th, 1pm- Dusk
Location: Garage @72 Habour Drive

Come experience an 8’x 4’ portable site-specific camera obscura that can be entered physically by the public. Our aim is to create a relationship between sound and image-making by offering the camera obscura as a method of viewing live musical events.

 

Downtown Comics: Breakdown Comic Jam
Time: Friday, August 27th, 6-9pm
Location: 141 Duckworth Street

Come join us for some drawing and chatting about comic books! Feel free to bring in a comic for “Show & Tell” and a snack for yourself. It’s FREE but we ask that you bring your own pencils, pens and such and some snacks and a mask too if you want!

 

Tyler Natyshrn: #MissusMonday Folklore
Time: Saturday, August 28th, 4-9pm
Location: Goerge Town Bakery

A poster campaign designed to further the efforts of MUNFLA’s #MISSUSMONDAY twitter campaign. Examining the specifics of each old wives tale through visual representation of the folklore involved, where the account was given, handwriting & partial identity of who shared the information, in an attempt to uncover the full name

 

St Micheal’s Print Shop: Members Show

The SMP Members Show showcases the work of active St. Michael’s Printshop members! If you are interested in seeing what these talented puffins have been up to, stop by St. Michael’s Printshop during the Hold Fast Art Crawl between 12-5pm.

 

QUIDI VIDI PLANTATION: Nkitwork NL
Time: Ongoing – September 5th
Location: Public Space outside the Quidi Vidi Village

Surrounding the Plantation and throughout the Quidi Vidi Village you’ll find yarn bombed rocks that have been created by knitters and crocheters in the community. The rocks have been wrapped in colourful repurposed wool that was knit into squares and then sewn together to create the street art.

Two new exhibitions will be opening at Eastern Edge Gallery! Holding Place is a group exhibition with print, installation, and video work by artists Emily Neufeld, Christeen Francis, and Andrew Testa. Steadfast is an exhibition of photography work by emerging artist Heather Jackman.
