“Indecisive Valley” with Hea R. Kim opens March 12th and runs until April 23rd. Indecisive Valley is a whimsical installation that incorporates diverse hand-built pieces. This wall installation is an amalgamation of various layers of craft techniques and image-based components in two and three-dimensional sculptures.
Opening in the rOGUE Gallery is Alex Antle’s “Njiknam (My Younger Brother)”, from March 12th to April 23rd. The series explores the relationship between being a modern Mi’kmaw person and engaging in traditional Mi’kmaq practices. It explores the blend of Newfoundland and Mi’kmaq culture and challenges the stereotype of what cultural practice looks like. Nijknam invites visitors to view the experience of land-based Mi’kmaq culture.
Xenia Laffely’s residency runs from March 11th to April 23rd, with Xenia’s exhibition opening on May 6th. Come out and say hello!
Xenia says, “during my residency, I would like to reflect on domestic space through the concept of ornamentation and home’s artifacts (bed, carpet, decorative objects, cushions). I want this exploration to be mostly experimental through the development of new techniques combining textiles and other materials… Through these experiments and the complex dramaturgy that goes into them, my aim is to address a direct critique of the devaluation of the domestic space, but mostly to the anti-ornamental theory of Austrian architect Adolf Loos, in Crime and Ornaments (1980).”
